First Place Winner: Virginia Tech, Team RoMeLa
A team of engineering students from Virginia Tech has won first place in the 2008-2009 National Innovation Awards conducted by the Compressed Air & Gas Institute (CAGI).
Team RoMeLa (Robotics and Mechanisms Lab) was comprised of:

The team’s project impressed the judges and secured first place with their project that used compressed air for robotic hand actuation. The team was mentored by CAGI member, Dipen Shah of the Ingersoll Rand company.
For their innovative design, Team RoMeLa will divide $2500 in prize money, and their effort also earned $8000 for their school’s participating department.
Second Place Winner: Buffalo State College, Dream Green Compression Team
Second place was awarded to Dream Green Compression Team of Buffalo State College.

The team’s project was the entry, “Utilizing Waste Heat from Compressed Air” and was mentored by CAGI member, Ed Czechowski, from the Cameron company.
The team will share $1500 in prize money. $4000 will be awarded to their school’s participating department.
CAGI is proud of all of the students and their mentors who participated in the 2008-2009 Innovation Awards Contest. Plans are underway for the 2009-2010 contest.
